They were demanding compulsory water buybacks be taken off the Murray-Darling Basin agenda permanently.
Dozens of concerned and loud protestors marched from Central Railway Station to Ms Plibersek’s office in Redfern to deliver the message, led by NSW Member for Murray Helen Dalton and NSW Member for Wagga Wagga Joe McGirr.
“Tanya Plibersek has come in like a ‘rural wrecking ball,” Mrs Dalton said.
“This water buybacks fiasco is all about Federal Labor and their attempt to look environmentally friendly so they can avoid losing votes to The Greens.
“This will drive up food costs for everyone, while also driving more and more farmers off the land.
“Compulsory water buybacks mean less water for farmers and that means higher food prices for Australians.”
The protestors were watched by 10 police officers.
“If you think food is expensive now, wait until we start losing more farmers because of this ridiculous plan,” Mrs Dalton said.
“Despite knowing the damage she is doing, the water minister is still pushing her politically motivated plan.”
