The Mowers won the toss and elected to bat.
Moama captain Anthony McMahon got the ball rolling for his side, hitting a couple of early boundaries before he was caught behind by Pat Arnold from the bowling of Rochy spearhead Jake Wright for 13.
What was 1-14 soon became 3-14 with Fraser Buchanan and Archie Teasdale both departing for ducks.
Wright made it two when Arnold snaffled Buchanan’s offering, while Joe Hamilton got in on the fun, having Teasdale caught behind.
Jordan McGregor led the rearguard action for the Mowers.
As batsmen continued to fall around him, McGregor showed great application.
He batted for just shy of three hours, facing 115 deliveries for 32, a score which shone like a beacon as Moama was bowled out for 86.
McGregor was the second-last batsman to fall, one of four victims of Myles Wade.
Wade, who took three wickets against Kyabram Fire Brigade in the previous round, claimed 4-16 from 12.3 overs, including seven maidens.
He followed up the impressive earlier good work of Wright.
The paceman made a welcome return to the Rochester line-up, taking 4-17 in an inspired 13-over spell.
Moama needed a spark early to get back into the contest and it came from new recruit Matt Saunders.
Saunders rocked the host with a devastating opening burst which had Rochester reeling at 4-29.
Opener Blake Evans scored his second consecutive duck, while Brandon Byrne (12), Joel Bunce (4) and captain Dylan Cuttriss (8) departed in quick succession.
In seven overs, Saunders returned the figures of 4-16.
His exit from the attack gave Rochester some relief, with Sean Williams (21 not out) getting the scoreboard ticking over.
McGregor claimed the wicket of Hamilton late on, leaving Rochester to resume at 5-49 on day two.
