The Murray Football League has said it’s received a request from Tocumwal Football Club to break away from the Picola District Football Netball League for season 2023.
Tocumwal was provisionally suspended by the PDFNL in October and was shut off from being involved in any official league meetings after a meeting with their fellow member clubs about the threat of non-affiliation with AFL Victoria.
The PDFNL broke away from AFL Victoria over an affiliation agreement, which the league didn’t sign by deadline in November.
Murray Football League general manager Dale Norman said the league would conduct a special general meeting on Monday, February 27 to consider the request.
The Bloods have competed in the PDFNL for the last nine years.
Norman said the club had requested to come across from “a desire to remain affiliated with AFL Victoria and the benefits that come with affiliation”.
“The Tocumwal FNC is excited about the prospect of rejoining the Murray FNL after a nine-year absence and to once again embrace the challenge of playing in a premier league,” Norman said.
In November, Tocumwal president Matthew Petersen said the club wanted to remain in an affiliated league.
Earlier this year, the league agreed on a new player points and salary cap system.
