The Murray Football Netball League held a special meeting on Monday night to welcome the club back in to its league after nine years with the PDFL.
Murray Football Netball League general manager Dale Norman said he was “excited about the inclusion”.
He said the club had requested to come across from “a desire to remain affiliated with AFL Victoria and the benefits that come with affiliation”.
While Picola is yet to meet to formally discuss Toc’s departure, Norman said the move was “official”.
“Tocumwal is a free agent; we are not waiting for any further opposition to the announcement,” he said.
“We are so pleased for the Tocumwal Football Netball Club, although it is not ideal timing with the start of the season looming.
“We will wrap our arms around them and welcome them, providing a new home in our league.
“They were in an untenable situation and we look forward to putting smiles on faces again.
“The new fixture will be issued in the next 24 hours,” Norman said yesterday.
The Picola League is yet to complete its investigations into the matter, with a meeting “scheduled for sometime next week” that could see some opposition to what the Murray League deem a forgone conclusion.
Picola League general manager Shane Railton said “the league will be re-affirming their position of the club in regards to a proposed draw”.
“Tocumwal have an obligation to the Picola League and they believe they have a sound case to follow that up,” he said.
“The individual clubs will be sought out for their feedback and that will have some influence on how the league wishes to pursue the matter.”
Tocumwal will join Finley Football Netball Club in the Murray League.
Cats president Matt Clark said he is “looking forward to reviving an old rivalry” between the two clubs.
“Tocumwal are best suited to be back (in Murray) and we wish them the best of luck in rejoining the competition.”
