Batting at number eight when Inverloch was reeling at 6-27 after batting first on Saturday Newman made 102 off 226 deliveries and with support from his sons Rhys, 16, who made 21 opening the batting and Cooper, 15, who made 14, Inverloch posted a final-winning score of 226 against Nyora, dismissed for 93 in its run chase on Sunday.
It was the first flag Newman had savoured playing with Inverloch since he moved there in 2016.
Among the Inverloch supporters were David’s Kyabram brother Paul and parents Penny and David Sr.
It turned out a big weekend for NewmanJr, presented with life membership of Inverloch at its premiership celebrations after the final.
