The calm water and gentle breeze made for a peaceful scene, creating perfect conditions for water skiing.
Enthusiastic and experienced volunteers took part, with Ski School representatives appreciating their willingness to give up their Friday night to help youngsters and adults learn to ski.
Leigh and sister Carissa Holmberg worked together in the beginner boat ‘Rolco’, while Andrew McBurnie and Debbie Jennings manned the advanced boat “Gilflite’.
Sina Stempel, an exchange student from Germany was the first skier on the night and set a great tone for the entire evening.
Sina is an expert in snow skiing and thought she would put her skills to the test and give water skiing a go. She successfully got up behind the boat on two skis without the training bar, and organisers described the smile on her face as “priceless”.
Driver Leigh commented “The best bit about teaching people to ski is seeing how happy they become.”
Sina was very excited after her ski session, and said “Skiing was so good and I am really keen to become better.”
Also acknowledged is Olivia Pearce who is a regular participant at Ski School and has been practising for several weeks to get up on one ski, which she achieved on Friday night.
Lastly, birthday boy Jack Priest, who turned 9 years old, was given a ski school award and for his continuous attendance over a number of years and can confidently slalom ski.
Driver Andrew McBurnie took Jack for an extra long ski for his birthday. Jack’s great performance on the water impressed all his friends who were watching from the bank in awe.
Ski School runs weekly Friday night from 5pm.
It is not too late to become a member of the Deniliquin Boat Club and join in the fun at ski school.
