After finishing fourth in the regular season, Lockington’s division three side wasn’t expected to make much of an impact in the finals.
However, the squad shirked those expectations to score a 14-68 to 2-52 win and keep its hopes alive at Rich River Bowls Club.
Leanne McInnes’ quartet earned the best result, 28-11, while fellow skip Steve Pavone also scored a win for Lockington.
The side will take on Moama Green in the preliminary final at Echuca Bowls Club this weekend.
Locky couldn’t replicate the feat in division four, eliminated by Stanhope 15-68 to 1-49.
A drawn rink from Kalvann Stout was the closest the side came.
Midweek pennant
Rochester wasn’t able to advance to the finals in any division, while Elmore finished in the top two in division three and Lockington has an elimination final to negotiate in division four.
In division one, Mathoura scored big in its contest with Rochester, prevailing 14-76 to 2-49.
Skip Troy Mansbridge’s squad was in good touch, earning a dominant 35-13 win.
Peter Pangrazio also bowled well for Mathoura, skipping a 24-11 rink victory, while Kevin Hall earned the lone success for Rochy 25-17.
In division two, Ky Valley View came within a shot of avoiding a winless season, downed by Rochester 12-61 to 4-60.
In division three, Lockington ensured it wouldn’t finish on the bottom of the ladder, dooming opponent Tongala Red to that fate 12-51 to 2-46.
Division four saw Lockington too strong for Tongala Red 14-51 to 0-22 and Rich River dominated Rochester 14-41 to 0-28.
