At one stage in the penultimate round clash at Kialla, the home side was 2-135 but the Kyabram’s bowlers restricted the final score to 230.
Openers Sam O’Brien (67) and Callan McCabe got Old Students away to a positive start after the home side had won the toss and elected to bat.
Felix Odell (29) kept the runs coming but Charlie McLay and spinners Alec Young, Kyle Mueller and Louis Sabbah Holt picked up wickets to alter the momentum of the home team’s innings.
Young talent Oscar Lambourn stood his ground stubbornly to make 59 and help boost Old Students’ final score to 230.
Most successful Kyabram bowlers were skipper Kyle Mueller with 3-36 off 13 overs, while Louis Sabbah-Holt, Charlie McLay and Alec Young, all with two wickets.
Kyabram’s batsmen have to fire to fire on Saturday to get the win which would cement its spot in the final six.
X Kyabram’s B-grade side posted a respectable 9-181 declared in its clash with Old Students, thanks to a dashing knock of 90 from skipper Jason Parsons.
Parsons clubbed 90 off 92 deliveries with 15 boundaries.
He got support from Dylan Lopez, who made 29, and young talent Jack Halstead with 12 not out in his debut at this level.
Kyabram’s bowlers then put the side in the box seat having Old Students reeling at 4-30 at stumps.
X In E-grade, Kyabram’s moderate score of 115 was enough to get the premiership points against Euroa.
Opener Marc Coates top scored with 31 for Kyabram and several teammates got a start with Peter Ryan’s 17 the next best contribution.
Ryan and Liam McIness put on 19 for the last wicket which proved a matchwinner as Euroa came up 10 runs short in its chase.
For Kyabram, Dino Letizia turned back the clock to take 4-5 off eight overs with Asher Porch and father Andrew and Anthony Evans all taking two wickets in the satisfying win.
