That’s how Goulburn Valley Suns could and, perhaps would, have felt following Saturday evening’s vexing 1-1 tie with Springvale White Eagles in round seven of the Victorian Premier League Two.
Back at the fortress of McEwen Reserve having not lost at home all season, the Suns had every reason to believe a fourth win was waiting in the wings.
That sense would’ve only amplified further when Danny Edwards’ strike on the hour rippled the net.
However, at the full-time whistle, the feelings were mixed for coach Craig Carley, who admitted a draw was probably an honest result given the game’s nature.

“(It was) an even game of few chances,” he said.
“I don’t feel like we stamped our football identity on the game and I feel a point was a fair result.”
The Suns started the hotter of the two sides, venturing forward with more fluidity from the outset, while Springvale instead opted to set up shop defensively.
Clearly a rigid system-based unit, the Eagles’ block proved tough to break, while the odd chance on the counter by the visitors ensured Suns custodian Ashton Bonsall had to be on his toes at all times.
Springvale managed to find the net in the first half, but it was disallowed, opening the door for the Orangemen to waltz on in with the opener some 15 minutes after the break.
A well-worked move down the left was capitalised on by Edwards, who cut inside and thrashed a low drive into the bottom left-hand corner for his second goal of the season.
The Suns were riding a high, but it was fleeting.
No more than 10 minutes after the deadlock was broken, a cheap free kick was given away in a dangerous area and the Eagles made sure to punish Carley’s side as Aaron Morris glanced a header over Bonsall and in.
Neither side was able to conjure a decisive blow in the final 20 minutes, mirroring a storyline more familiar to some of the Suns’ recent away games.
“I can hold my hands up and accept it when we concede a good goal, but honestly, I don’t think that’s happened all season,” Carley said.
“We just need to be more ruthless in our defensive third.
“Our attention now turns to Brunswick Juventus next weekend — thanks again to all in attendance.”
