Baris Tokay, 36, of Shepparton, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to possessing 1-4 butanediol, two counts of possessing steroids and breaching a community corrections order.
A police prosecutor told the court police found a clear plastic bottle of GHB, as well as steroids testosterone and deca-durabolin, when searching his Shepparton home on April 24, 2024.
He tried to hide the bottle of GHB by throwing it into a clothes basket, the police prosecutor said.
The court also heard Tokay breached a community corrections order he was placed on in April last year for charges of trafficking methamphetamines, trafficking GHB, trafficking cannabis, possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing an imitation firearm, possessing cartridge ammunition, possessing a schedule four poison, possessing a drug of dependence and possessing cannabis.
Tokay’s defence barrister Thibaut Clamart said his client had a “long-standing drug addiction” but he “knows drugs aren’t helpful to him”.
Mr Clamart said Tokay had proved he could live in the community without offending, as he hadn’t committed any other offences since April 2024.
Magistrate Simon Zebrowski said Tokay was “hopeless” on a community corrections order and his behaviour was “appalling”.
“I’m not impressed he’s stayed out of trouble for 10 months,” he said.
Mr Zebrowski said communities across Victoria were “ridden with people struggling with drug issues” and Tokay was one of the people trafficking it.
Tokay was fined $1000 for possessing steroids and 1-4 butanediol.
He was also fined $5000 after being re-sentenced for the matters he had previously been placed on a community corrections order for in April last year.
“The only reason he’s not going to jail is because he’s not committed any other offences,” Mr Zebrowski said.
