An L-plater who was also drug-driving did not have a supervising driver with them, a court has heard.
Joel Kokoi, 31, of Shepparton was charged with drug-driving, being a learner driver without a supervising driver and not displaying L-plates.
His matter was heard in his absence at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard Kokoi was the only occupant in the vehicle when he was pulled over by police in McIntosh St, Shepparton, at 10.45am on August 4 last year.
He tested positive to cannabis in a drug test.
As a learner driver, he should have had a supervising driver with him, and he was also not displaying L-plates on the front or back of the car.
The prosecutor said Kokoi admitted to not having a supervising driver and told police at the time “his friend was asleep and had lots of alcohol”, and that he was not displaying L-plates because “he didn’t have them”.
Kokoi was fined $800 and was disqualified from driving for six months.
