If you are familiar with George Orwell’s Animal Farm, you would have recognised Squealer, “a clever pig who could turn black into white”, presenting his budget speech last Tuesday night — really it was not Squealer, but the federal treasurer, Jim Chalmers.
The treasurer spoke glibly about ‘tax cuts’ but his ‘tax cuts’ are always up.
If the opposition wants to make a hit with voters with ‘tax cuts’ then a realistic start can be made by abolishing the GST, which adds 10 per cent to necessary everyday items.
No! They will not do that because the GST is a ‘socialist’s delight’, and supported by both government and the opposition.
However, there is a light in the tunnel showing an election coming up when voters will be able to decide what type of government best suits their aspirations.
It’s the God-given right of voters to choose more of the same but surely they can do better than at present!
Be warned … you will be stuck with your choice for three years, so vote carefully!
