Don’t have your yabby ready for the sprint? Don’t worry, you can buy one in racing form on the day.
The annual yabby races are back at Dookie’s Gladstone Hotel, on Sunday, January 26, for the charity fundraisers, the Dookie, Devenish and Districts Good Friday Appeal.
Group president Paul Durden said the event was split into children and adult sections, with the young ones kicking off at 2pm with a series of heats. The place-getters go into the final races, with prizes for the winners.
He advises competitors and cheer squads to get there early, and those without a racing yabby can buy one for $10 each.
The event raises money for the Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
The group also has other fundraising events on the calendar: barefoot bowls at the Dookie Bowls Club on March 13; online auction through the Kevin Hicks Real Estate website, starting March 27; Rock with a Reason live music at Dookie Recreation Reserve on March 30; and Hill Top, Tatura golf day on April 6.
