Short-line agricultural equipment distributor Muddy River Agricultural, from Mooroopna, won the Best Outdoor Large Commercial category, while education and research institution Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, took out the Best Outdoor General.
The awards were presented on Wednesday, September 21 by field days chief executive officer Belinda Anderson.
Ms Anderson said the exhibitor awards encouraged site holders to strive for similar ideals during the field days.
Judges Daryl Thomson and Bec Clancy covered the 14km of external shop front plus the indoor sites, assessing visual presentation, display, layout and innovation.
Mrs Clancy said the Muddy River Agricultural site had great visual presence and presentation with eye-catching, white picket fencing, a defined entrance, flagpoles, marquee and good signage.
Muddy River Agricultural’s NSW territory manager Steve Robertson said the site design was a team effort after exhibiting at many field days.
“The owner of Muddy River wanted to make a statement at the field days this year so we went with the white picket fence and layout, and it has worked really well,” Mr Robertson said.
“Having the fence makes it feel more welcoming and everyone has appreciated it.”
Mr Robertson said demand was extremely strong on opening day for sprayers and tillage machinery, with strong sales and follow up inquiry.
Meanwhile, a flex draper offering more capacity, speed and flex won the 2022 Henty Machine of the Year Award.
The MacDon FD2 Flex Draper, entered by MacDon Australia, impressed judges with its innovation, design and engineering.
Highly commended was the John Deere See & Spray Select entered by Hutcheon and Pearce.
A total of 22 machines and equipment at the cutting edge of agricultural technology were showcased in the Henty Machine of the Year.
Announced on the field days opening day, September 20, this award is presented to the most outstanding new piece of agricultural machinery exhibited at the field days.
Judge Warren Scheetz said the award this year incorporated both 2021 and 2022 entries, and the job to select a winner was a difficult one.
“The MacDon has increased the performance of the draper front by 20 per cent to match the ever-growing high capacities of the modern day headers,” he said.
“MacDon has also increased the flex of the machine by up to 70 per cent over previous models along with the ground following capabilities.
“It is a simple, well-constructed mechanical design featuring ease of use.”
Mr Scheetz said the John Deere See & Spray Select System used a combination of cameras and processes to detect weeds before activating the required nozzles to apply chemical with high accuracy.
“This reduces chemical applications by up to 77 per cent over traditional blanket broadcast, thus reducing input costs and chemical use,” he said.
