The field day was hosted by the North East Wine Zone, the Victorian Government, North East Catchment Management Authority, the Federal Government, and Agbiz Assist.
NEWZ president Rob Hawkings said the day was well-supported and it was good to see 95 grape growers and winemakers come out and meet with their industry peers, while previewing the latest tech for the wine industry.
“It's been such a long time since the industry has come together, that we felt that running an Agtech day would be well received,” Mr Hawkings said.
“We have been excited to see the attendance.”
Growers from all regions were represented including Beechworth, King Valley, Alpine Valley, Rutherglen, Glenrowan, Central Victoria, and the Strathbogies.
Businesses displaying their products included AME group recycle sprayers, under vine and canopy management equipment; Swan Systems Irrigation software; Aussie Wine Group infield de-stemmer; Smart Apply variable rate sprayer and selective green seeker herbicide unit; EE Muir — laser bird deterrents, nutrition, and disease control; Hybrid Ag — Nutrition solutions; Bitwise Agronomy — growth analytics and shoot counting; Onside — visitor check-in systems; and Clemens — under vine equipment.
The NEWZ field day aimed to highlight opportunities to use technology to build vineyard resilience in a changing climate.
Among the issues that were the focus of the technology on show were disease prevention, water use efficiency, labour management and nutrition solutions.
