Trees and tree branches fell in the gale, one falling across the Cobb Highway near Mathoura and blocking traffic in both directions.
In nearby Moama, a fallen branch resulted in the death of a 63 year-old woman after it fell on a cabin.
A 63 year-old male in the cabin was injured in the ordeal and treated at the scene by Victorian Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Echuca Hospital for further treatment.
There were a number of broken limbs throughout Deniliquin’s parks.
At the time of going to print yesterday, however, the Deniliquin and Conargo SES unit controller Jodie Graham said the unit had only been called to one incident.
At 4.24am, the SES attended Whitelock St, Deniliquin, where a tree branch had fallen across a power line and on a nearby property’s front fence.
No-one was physically injured due to the incident.
Mrs Graham said gusts up to 78km/h were forecast for noon yesterday and said it was important for people to remain vigilant despite the natural weather forces.
The incident at Mathoura was reported at about 4.50am, with the Mathoura Rural Fire Brigade dispatched to help remove the tree across the highway about 8km north of the town.
With assistance from Transport for NSW, the tree was removed within an hour.
