A natural born talent, Pete Denahy had the audience at Wilby Hall on the weekend laughing and tapping their feet to a show which blended fiddle tunes, bluegrass style, original songs and madcap comedy.
The popular entertainer who hails from Yackandandah was originally booked back in 2019 to celebrate the completion of renovations and the retention of Wilby Hall. However, COVID 19 caused the concert to be postponed.
On Friday the celebrations were able to be held and attracted over one hundred people who enjoyed the wonderful facilities at Wilby.
Wilby Hall Committee President, Robert Glover welcomed everyone and related how the township nearly lost its hall when in 2016, Moira Shire announced that it was trying to reduce assets and were planning to demolish it.
At the time council suggested the fire shed would be sufficient for local gatherings. The community worked hard to demonstrate to council that a ‘good sized’ meeting place was essential for social events which promote a strong and friendly communal environment.
Fortunately, the shire found some funds and the hall is now regularly used with monthly old-time dances and community get togethers, concerts, weddings, parties and much more.
Compliments abounded from those gathered for the quality of the show, the improvements to the hall and the delicious supper that was served.
