The vehicles were revealed at Seymour’s Chittick Park on Friday, February 14. They will support the rollout of additional kerbside bins and boost the efficiency of waste and recycling services.
Mitchell Shire’s new kerbside collection service will officially begin next month.
Council is set to introduce food and garden organics bins, as well as glass recycling bins, to its kerbside services.
Food and garden waste will be transported to Repurpose It in Epping, while glass recycling will be taken to Cleanaway in Coolaroo to ensure the proper sorting and recycling into new products.
With these changes, general rubbish collection will move from a weekly to a fortnightly schedule.
To help residents adapt, council has developed the My Mitchell app, offering a personalised bin collection calendar and reminder notifications.
Residents can also access collection schedules and waste disposal information via the app or council website by entering their property address.
The new kerbside collection schedule includes weekly collection for food and garden organics (green lid), fortnightly collection for mixed recycling (yellow lid) and general rubbish (red lid) on alternating fortnights, and monthly collection for glass recycling (purple lid).
The changes align with the Victorian Government's Recycling Victoria policy, which aims to improve recycling rates, reduce waste and minimise environmental impacts.
Some properties will see a change to their collection day starting Tuesday, March 4.
The council has notified affected property owners by letter.
