A group from northern Victoria travelled with their horses to the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne on February 26 to honour the millions of horses, dogs and pigeons who served with Australian and Allied forces in armed conflicts for more than a century.
Participating in the annual event, organised by the Day of War Animals Association, the regional mounted contingent was led by Indi 4th and 8th Light Horse Association leader Matt Leggett from Mansfield.
Other mounted members of the small troop included Kerry Bruce from Barmah, Neil Pankhurst from Picola, Ross Smith from Bullioh, Ewen McLean from Goomalibee and Nigel Morris from Benalla.
After a wreath-laying service commemorating the war animals, a flock of doves was released to symbolise peace.
