Victorian Mental Health Minister Ingrid Stitt announced that the Shepparton Mental Health and Wellbeing Local was now accepting walk-ins.
Locals aged 26 years and older can walk in and receive the help they need for free, with no need for a Medicare card, GP referral or appointment.
The Shepparton service is one of 15 Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals operating across the state, supporting individuals experiencing mental illness or psychological distress, including those with co-occurring substance use or addiction concerns, providing treatment and care in their community.
Operated by Wellways Australia in partnership with Australian Primary Mental Health Alliance Healthcare and Goulburn Valley Health, the Shepparton Local has been offering telehealth services since December 2023.
A flagship reform following the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, Locals act as a ‘front door’ to the mental health system.
The service offers a welcome and inclusive space to access support from qualified mental health professionals, including peer support workers catering to the needs of all communities.
“A walk-in service at the Shepparton Local now makes it easier for locals to get that bit of extra care and support when they’re struggling with their mental health in a welcoming and accessible environment,” state Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said.
You can access the Mental Health and Wellbeing Local at 151-155 Maude St, Shepparton, for walk-in support five days a week, in addition to telehealth services available on weekdays by calling 1300 000 559.
