Mr Hosking is an agricultural advocate and has previously served as VFF vice-president (2016-18) and VFF Grains Group president.
He is a fifth-generation mixed farmer who grows wheat, barley, canola, lentils and field peas, as well as running sheep and cattle.
He is also a director of the Birchip Cropping Group and Farmers for Climate Action, chair of the Grains Market Access Committee for Grains Australia and a former GrainGrowers chair.
He replaces Gippsland vegetable grower Emma Germano, who was elected in 2020. She was only the second female VFF president in the organisation’s history.
Tallangatta livestock farmer Peter Star has been elected vice-president.
Mr Star has been VFF Livestock vice-president since 2022 and is the current VFF representative to the National Wild Dog Action Plan Stakeholder Consultative Group.
He has also held positions of the VFF Land Management Committee, served as the Livestock Council Representative to the VFF Board and is a current member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
The VFF also announced the following uncontested positions:
- VFF UDV: Bernie Free, president.
- VFF Livestock: Scott Young, president; Peter Miller, vice-president.
- VFF Livestock Commodity Council: Wimmera, Graeme Mahar; East Gippsland, Trent Anderson; additional councillor, Bradley Venning.
An election for the Water Council chairmanship is expected to be held next year.
