A long-time resident of Benalla, Maurice Senior was born on June 18, 1928, in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire.

His parents were Ada-Alice (nee Bentley) and William Henry Senior.
Maurice was schooled firstly at the Moorend Church of England School and later went to Whitecliffe Mount Grammar School in Cleckheaton.
When he finished school, he went on to work at ICI Huddersfield’s DyeStuffs Division as a laboratory assistant in research.
When Maurice turned 18, he enlisted in the army (July 1946 to October 1948). He was stationed in England, Singapore and Ceylon, working in pathology.
In October 1948, he began working at the Dewsbury Infirmary as a trainee in the pathology laboratory.
He gained his Diploma in Histopathology and Diploma in Haematology and Blood Transfusion. He was a fellow of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology.
While in Dewsbury Infirmary, Maurice met Jean Ginty. Maurice and Jean married in 1953.

In 1960 Maurice, Jean and their three daughters emigrated to Australia where Maurice worked as a laboratory manager with Brighton Pathology.
After 18 years with Brighton Pathology, Maurice and Jean moved to Benalla where Maurice worked as the senior medical technologist at Benalla Hospital.
He retired in 1990 and then spent many years as a volunteer greenskeeper and a bowler at Swanpool Bowls Club.
In 2020 after the death of his wife, Maurice moved closer to family in Jindera, NSW.
Diagnosed with cancer just prior to the COVID pandemic, he was optimistic about his prognosis. Sadly, the cancer spread and his health deteriorated.
Maurice died on January 2, 2023, at Mercy Place, Albury. He is survived by two of his three daughters, seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was a good and kind man, and is deeply missed by his family who loved him.
