But this year is out of the ordinary, for any school.
Of the 11 foundation students, there are two sets of twins.
“It’s very exciting for us,” she said.
From watching Adam and Indigo Ford and Ryan and Annabelle McMullen playing in the yard, swinging off the monkey bars, and embracing each other on the grassy field, it’s clear the boisterous preps have settled in well.
“They’ve had a really great introduction the last two days,” she said.
“It also helps because we’ve got our transition program for all our foundation students – they come in around term three before starting school, and do different activities along the way.”
“They’ve gotten to know each other in those times, and they’re all set to go and all prepared.”
Katandra West Primary School has only 62 students from foundation to year six, but Marcia said the small size fostered strong connections with the community.
“We get to know the kids really well and all the other kids get to know the other kids, so it’s really inclusive and welcoming,” she said.
“We’re a small school, but we do big things.”
The twins were all excited about being at school, and when asked who their best friends so far were, they all responded as expected.
