The Aussie Backyard Bird Count is a chance to put your knowledge to the test.
Australia’s largest citizen science project is an opportunity to get out into nature and learn about wildlife in your area.
In 2019, 88,270 Australians participated in the count and a total of almost 3.4 million birds were counted.
The most common native birds spotted were the rainbow lorikeet, noisy miner, magpie, sulphur crested cockatoo and galah.
Participants spend 20 minutes outside in their backyard or local park to record the birds that they see.
The data is then submitted to the Aussie Backyard Bird Count app or website.
The results will help BirdLife Australia to develop an understanding of what local bird populations are doing over time.
