The first Australian modified tractor pull was held at the Elmore Field Days in 1976.
Elmore Tractor Pull committee member Grant Shawcross knows we are in for another big year.
“This year we will see an Elmore committee member get his new mini-modified out on home soil,” Mr Shawcross said.
“There may be a local open modified big tractor that is currently in the engine rebuild stage, and we are hoping to see the owner out on track for the first time since 1987.
“There is a chance that the engine on that tractor could be up to two and a half thousand horsepower.
“We will see a large variety of tractors on display at our Agco Tractor Roundup, including but not limited to Massey Ferguson, Allis-Chalmers and Fendt tractors.”
A tractor pull is where a modified tractor pulls a weighted sled along an 11m-wide, 100m-long dirt track.
As the tractor pulls the sled further, the more forward the weight is on the sled, causing the sled to get harder to pull.
When the tractor “pulls” the whole 100m it is called a full pull.
Tractor pulling is known as the most powerful motorsport because some tractors have more than one engine, some of which are over 1000hp.
To add to the excitement, lawnmower racing has been added to the night’s action.
The modified lawnmowers, with blades removed but the original mower engine retained, will be in action during the tractor pull.
The Elmore Tractor Pull is at Elmore Event Centre, March 16, with gates opening at 3pm and the tractor pulling action starting at 4pm.
