Teslas spark new mechanic training at Shepparton GOTAFE

GOTAFE is set to drive a new era of automotive training by incorporating the latest in electric vehicle technology into its education programs.

The automotive workshop at GOTAFE’s Fryers St campus in Shepparton is one of two Victorian campuses receiving a Tesla vehicle.

The introduction of the Tesla will allow the Greater Shepparton mechanics of tomorrow to learn how to effectively handle electric and hybrid vehicles.

The Teslas made their debut at the NE Tracks LLEN Hands on Trades Career Expo on August 10.

GOTAFE co-ordinator automotive Mark Ward said the reason behind the surge in demand for EV training and upskilling was that the market for vehicles was finally switching gears.

“There has been an increase in demand for electric vehicles,” Mr Ward said.

“Everyone is looking at green energy and making a move away from fossil fuels.

“We are one of the first TAFEs in Victoria to have Tesla vehicles.”

The Teslas will play a pivotal role in training mechanics, spray painters, panel beaters, operators of charging stations and even emergency service drivers.

The new cars aim to equip local workshops to handle the evolving needs of the automotive industry.
