The Victorian Government is encouraging anglers of all persuasions to grab their bait and tackle and hit their nearest lake or river.
With a record 66 million fish distributed to more than 60 locations across the state, Victoria can now boast to have stocked more fish than all other Australian states and territory governments combined.
Species include golden perch, salmon, estuary perch, Australian bass, salmon and trout. Fingerlings were produced at the Arcadia Native Fish Hatchery outside Shepparton, and will soon be joined in rivers and lakes by a further 10 million fish by mid-2025.
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said there were 10 million reasons Victorian families should get out and drop a line this year, with dozens of lakes and rivers stocked across northern Victoria.
It was a sentiment echoed by Outdoor Recreation Minister Steve Dimopoulos, who said there was no better time to wet a line.
“We want Victorians to get out and enjoy our great outdoors,” he said.
