He’s become somewhat of a stud dog around the Berrigan district, with no signs of slowing down.
A little dog that walks tall, Dougie was given to Dom Nixon as a Christmas present from his dad, Ade, back in 2019, and he’s been the gift that keeps on giving ever since.
“Word got around that we had this cute little Jack Russell dog with a great temperament, I think he’s up to fathering four litters,” said Dom’s wife, Alyssa Pyle, at home with Dougie in Savernake.
“He stays home and mans the fort even though he’d love to be out working like a sheepdog.”
While Dougie’s strengths lie in being a companion for 18-month-old Edie, his weakness is for running far, far away if the gate is left open.
Dougie and Mack the kelpie have made it the whole 20km along the Riverina Hwy to Berrigan a few times when the opportunity presented itself.
“Poor Doug has taken a bit of a back seat since we had Edie and my floristry business Studio Alyssum has grown,” Alyssa said.
“He does love going on a flower run though. He sits up front and when we get to town, he fat arms it out the window letting everyone know he’s arrived.”
Dougie, alert as ever, photographs well and featured in Alyssa’s recent brand shoot.
With a twinkle in his eye, you get the sense that Dougie believes all publicity is good publicity.
