The centre is located at 343 Gulpha Street, Deniliquin and upon arrival you will be greeted by a friendly team of people from a range of services ready to help.
Monique Bellamy is the Evacuation Centre Manager and has arrived from Sydney, temporarily away from her usual position at the Department of Communities and Justice.
“Our first priority is to provide temporary relief accommodation that is also pet friendly”, she said.
“As a last resort if all the other temporary relief accommodation is full the evacuation centre is available and has the ability to house companion pets if needed”, she continued.
People are registered on arrival by the Australian Red Cross.
Registration allows any family members who may be concerned about a person’s whereabouts to locate them on the Australian Red Cross website.
Their aim is to register, find and re-unite should family or loved ones need to find a person.
After registration, the Disaster Welfare team will connect you with temporary relief accommodation.
Services Australia is on site to provide information and connect you with Income Support Payments and Flood Assistance Support to those affected by the floods and from declared areas.
Also part of the services provided is assistance from the Salvation Army Emergency Services team who are providing on-site catering for meals.
Even if you are housed in relief accommodation away from the evacuation centre you are encouraged to return for meals if they are needed.
