Oh, there is, it’s called Farm Table.
It’s a site run by web developer Rob Jennings who is based in Castlemaine.
“The world is drowning in a sea of information and misinformation. If we can be a reputable source that the industry can trust then we’ve done our job,” Rob said.
Rob met with Farm Table founder Airlie Landale at a café in Echuca back in 2017. They talked shop for three hours and then busily set about creating Farm Table.
Recently, Airlie has pivoted to manage young kids and the family farm at Deniliquin but her vision continues.
According to Rob, Farm Table curates all manner of resources that may be of interest to farmers and offers them up in one easy site, regardless of their location or industry.
“So much of the agricultural industry is state-based or industry specific. Farm Table collates everything and makes abridged versions of all the best information that’s relevant to farmers,” he said.
A quick search of the site reveals the categories of information on offer — library, tech, products, funding, courses, events, directory and news.
But be warned, if you go searching you may find yourself down a rabbit hole of resources (but at least you know it’s a safe, reliable rabbit hole that’s been verified by the team at Farm Table).
While Rob is steering the ship, a gang of regionally based graphic designers, content writers and farm advisory consultants are in the engine room working on ways to help farmers grow.
“We are set to launch a private social media platform for farmers so they can talk shop in a safe space,” Rob said.
Rob believes farmers need a place to talk about potentially topical issues.
“They will be able to control the content, administer the rules and have constructive conversations without the emotion often found in the public online space,” he said.
While it is free for individuals to access the site, a membership gives people the capacity to save resources and bookmark them for later.
Farm Table also sells memberships to large organisations, such as universities and industry organisations, so that they can house their content on the site and their members can access it.
The website describes itself as ‘Australia’s foremost agricultural knowledge platform’ but it may also be known as the best place to visit if stuck in the sowing tractor — if you’re looking for farming podcast recommendations or wanting to research any thought bubbles, then head to the Farm Table
