The town was the recipient of a grant of more than $100000 under the Pick My Project grant program.
With the agreement officially signed, the town is now able to appoint an artist and begin preparation work on the silo art which is due to be completed by April 2020.
The Colbinabbin Silo Art Committee includes seven locals: Sadie Vale, Kay Fenton Branson, Frank Stewart, Guy Rathjen, Natalie Ryan, Caroline Myers and Mary Ann Morgan will help co-ordinate the project.
The Colbinabbin Country Hotel will act as a business partner under the grant’s requirements, with a submission lodged to VicTrack to lease the land now known as Lot 38 for the viewing area.
The committee said feedback, which included 116 community responses, had been overwhelmingly positive, with ideas for the artwork focused on six key areas: agriculture and rural aspects; history; community; environment and locality; flora and fauna; and sports and social activities.
‘‘The concept for the artwork is being fine-tuned from the feedback received ... however, as soon as the ideas have been presented to an artist, we will then await some sketches of what might be most suitable to the community,’’ the group said.
‘‘There is also a commitment to engage and work with local businesses, schools, CFA and community members to be involved throughout the course of the artwork.
‘‘In respect of the long-term benefits of the silo art, it will not only be a great tourist attraction and bring new people to the district, but this will also enhance the local community, as it will assist with investment in the community, employment and will continue to make the community strong and sustainable.’’
