The Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) scholarship was presented to her by Country Women’s Association of NSW Murray Hut branch president Nola Pinnuck.
Shianne said she was grateful to receive the funds and hopes to study a Bachelor of Agriculture at the University of New England next year.
‘‘I will use the scholarship to purchase textbooks, school needs and help pay for accommodation.
‘‘I want to return to Finley High School as an agriculture teacher one day.
‘‘I want to say thank you to Murray Hut CWA for the scholarship, which is really appreciated.
“We are lucky to have them in the community.”
Shianne focused her application on her aspirations for teaching and her love for agriculture.
‘‘There were a few tricky questions in the application, but you just have to lay your heart out on your sleeve with what you love,” she said.
‘‘I have a passion for agriculture which I get from my amazing teachers, Mr Webb and Mrs O’Leary who have taken me under their wing and taught me a lot.”
Mrs Pinnuck said the scholarship helps empower young women in the region to pursue tertiary education after high school.
‘‘We’ve been running the STEM scholarship for four years and after viewing the quality of Shianne’s resume and how she presented herself at interview, she was the right choice among many
impressive candidates,” she said.
‘‘The scholarship has been made broad enough so that virtually any career path chosen by a young woman can apply.’’
Madeline Dundon was the beneficiary of last year’s STEM Scholarship.
