John Creenaune offered to shave his head and beard to raise money for the charity, which has supported him through his own cancer journey.
It was hosted Friday night at the Deniliquin Coach House Hotel, during the Deniliquin Fishing & Camping Group’s weekly raffle.
And, it wasn’t just Mr Creenaune who had his ‘ears lowered’.
Joining him in the shave was his Deniliquin Fishing & Camping Group co-captain and friend Les Booth, and regular raffle supporter Travis Wilson.
Donors pledged $600 for George Caruso to also shave his head on the night, but Mr Caruso matched the donation to escape the clippers.
“Right now, $7,800 has been raised from the night, but donations aren’t closed, and we have more pledges to be made,” Mr Creenaune said.
“The front bar part of the Coach House was packed, and we had close to 100 or more people scattered throughout for the event.
“It could well be an annual thing; it doesn’t need to be shaving my head, or getting in the paper every year.
“We could get more and more people involved who want to come up and have their head shaved for the cause.”
Mr Creenaune said he’s had amazing support from so many people during his cancer journey, and for the fundraiser.
He particularly wanted to thank his partner, Julie Watson.
“First and foremost, and personally, I would like to thank Julie for her support through this as well as her organisation of the event.
“I also can't thank CanAssist enough for all their support, and hairdresser Nat Brown.”
Mr Creenaune was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Stage 1 Grade-2 in June last year.
The fundraiser was his way of “giving back” to Can Assist for their help during that time.
All money raised on Friday will be donated to Can Assist to support locals undergoing cancer treatment.
