And he has written movies that starred Kylie Minogue, Molly Ringwald and Travis Fimmel.
But this weekend, accomplished wordsmith Dave Warner will sit down with the Shepparton community to discuss his new book.
On Saturday, March 16, the Shepparton Library will be paid a visit by the musician, screenwriter and author for a unique ‘author talk’.
During the event, the library will become a live venue as Warner, joined by long-time collaborator Tony Durant, performs a number of songs.
To get things under way, Warner will share his journey of becoming an author, discuss his published books, and perhaps even offer readers a preview of his upcoming book, When It Rains.
Additionally, he will sign copies of his latest book, Summer of Blood.
Summer of Blood is the tale of two Australian police officers who travel to San Francisco and Los Angeles in the summer of 1967 in search of a missing young man.
However, the partners in crime become fully immersed in the world of music, free love, drugs and hippie counterculture.
They soon realise this isn’t just any ordinary missing person investigation.
It’s easy to see Warner has a flair for fiction.
But given his success, he could’ve written a memoir.
As an author, he has been awarded the Ned Kelly Award for Best Crime Fiction and the Western Australian Premier’s Award for Literature.
Warner has also received accolades for his contributions to music, including being named a Western Australian State Living Treasure and being inducted into the WAMi Rock ’n’ Roll of Renown.
He has explored a diverse range of genres throughout his music career – from the audacious to the western.
In 1972, Warner formed Australia’s first punk band, named Pus.
Recently, he released a country album with his new group, Rude Crew.
However, rather than chronicling his credentials, his life influences have been detailed throughout more than 20 fiction novels, including 12 crime novels.
That said, Warner’s visit to the Shepparton Library is something music, writing and cinema enthusiasts will all equally enjoy, so be sure to book a spot.
