Each year on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month since the end of World War I, Australians observe a minute’s silence to remember the service and sacrifice of the country’s servicemen and women.
Echuca RSL sub-branch president Denis Shanahan provided a glimpse into what this year’s commemorations would look like.
“We’ve been fielding a number of questions from people saying, will Remembrance Day be like usual due to the floods?” he said.
“The answer to those questions has been yes.
“The Remembrance Day service is timed to start from 10.45am at the cenotaph where people can come and pay their respects.
“The service is also being broadcast on EMFM for those people unable to attend in person.”
Mr Shanahan said Remembrance Day was an occasion to pay respects to those soldiers who did not return home and the families left behind.
First commemorated in 1919, Remembrance Day grows in stature with each passing year.
There will be ample opportunities for members of the public or service organisations to lay a wreath as part of the Remembrance Day ceremony.
Echuca cenotaph is located in the Civic Centre Gardens on Hare St.
EMFM is broadcast on frequency 104.7FM.
