Taken in 1975, in this photo Mr Paddy McCurry of Hopetoun St holds a giant bean, which his wife won in a competition in aid of the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal. The bean, grown by Mr Hec Hammer, measured 54 inches in length, 11 inches around the butt, and 8.5 inches around the middle. It was part of a huge hamper. Photo by Campaspe News

50 years ago March 1975

A deputation from the Lockington branch of the VFU, comprising Mr F. Rorke and Mr A. Butcher, presented a submission to the Shire of Rochester seeking a reduction in rates for rural areas within the shire.
