Brian and Valerie Ellis are proud grandparents in even the most challenging of times, so you can imagine how pleased they must be now that they have two — yes, two — young citizens of the year among their grandchildren.
William Ellis and Dimity Pearson were last week named young citizens of the year for the Cootamundra Gundagai Regional Council and Campaspe Shire respectively.
William has been an active participant in Cootamundra Lions since he was about 10, active in woodcutting events and the Lions’ wood raffles. He assists with the Lions’ jumping castle and the annual Australia Day barbecue and as a Year 10 student at Cootamundra High School is also a Student Representative Council member.
He is also the treasurer of the newly-formed Cootamundra youth council, a group looking to develop more youth participation in the community.
Dimity, from Rochester, was splashed across the pages of The Riv last week after being named Campaspe Shire’s top young citizen.
