The Resilience in Recovery team is bringing agronomist Sinead Barker to the event, to talk about post-flood soil and pasture recovery and maintenance.
She will also cover flood mitigation strategies, including approaches to flood preparation, weed control after flood events and animal welfare.
Ms Barker is a pasture and livestock consultant from Meridian Agriculture in Melbourne.
“It’s about matching the right soil with the right pasture and corresponding that with animals that are well-suited to it as well,” she said.
“Some species recover better from waterlogging and flooding than others.”
Joining her will be Garry and Shirley Semmens from Beyond Blue, to talk about their experience as farmers through disasters.
They will discuss mental health care, options for accessing help and positive outcomes that come from shared disaster experiences.
The Farmers’ Day Out includes a free roast dinner, and will be held at the Tallygaroopna Soldiers’ Memorial Hall in Victoria St, Tallygaroopna, from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, June 14.
Registration is essential, as this free event is limited to 100 attendees.
