Strathbogie Shire has more than 2210 kilometres of roads — 1465km unsealed and 748km sealed. On top of this there are 521 bridges and culverts to maintain.
“We know poor road conditions are frustrating for our community and we are working as hard as we can, but there is no quick fix,” Strathbogie Shire Mayor Laura Binks said.
Cr Binks said the assessment process could take up to three months to complete, depending on conditions.
“The repairs needed on our road network are significant and we will need funding from the state and federal governments,” she said.
“We’ve already started advocating for this and will continue to fight strongly for support.
“Our community must see action to improve our road network.”
Fair payment call for transmission lines
Farmers for Climate Action has launched a video asking all parties contesting the Victorian election to commit to fair payments for farmers who have transmission lines on their land.
Farmers for Climate Action chief executive officer Fiona Davis said transmission was the key to unlocking cheaper power bills by connecting renewable energy projects to the grid.
“We know renewable energy projects will cut emissions and put downward pressure on power bills once they’re connected to the grid,” Dr Davis said.
“This means transmission lines on farmland.
“All Victorians will benefit from the lower power prices this transmission across farms will create, and if you use our land, you should pay for it. It’s only fair.”
The video features farmers from across Victoria calling for annual payments to farmers for transmission on their land. Currently, this does not exist.
It follows the NSW Government announcement of a $10,000 a year annual payment for 20 years for every kilometre of transmission line on their property.
