Roundabout for busy intersection
Greater Shepparton City Council will build a roundabout at the Orrvale Rd and Poplar Ave intersection on the edge of Shepparton.
The contract for the works has been awarded to local business Jarvis Delahey Contractors, with construction to begin in early September.
It will be closed for about nine weeks, weather permitting.
Due to the full closure of this busy intersection, the community is encouraged to begin planning alternate travel routes to use during the nine weeks. Signed detours will be in place to direct motorists, with Channel Rd available throughout the construction period.
Between 140 and 180 vehicles go through the intersection every day. Council’s infrastructure director Gary Randhawa said the roundabout upgrade would significantly increase traffic safety by reducing speed, risk and accidents.

RIC variable interest rate increase
The Federal Government’s farm business lender, RIC (Regional Investment Corporation), increased the variable interest rate on all concessional farm business loans by 19 basis points to 5.18 per cent on August 1.
The new variable interest rate applies to all RIC farm business loans, such as AgriStarter, Farm Investment, Drought and AgBiz Drought.
RIC chief executive officer John Howard said RIC’s low interest rates continued to provide a concessional benefit to farm businesses in financial need.
“This financial year, RIC delivered more than $200 million in low-cost loans to help farm businesses set up, invest, recover, and prepare for potential severe business disruption including drought, floods or bushfires,” Mr Howard said.
He said RIC interest rates were only reviewed twice a year. “This brings certainty to RIC customers when managing their cash flow in that they know any change will be effective on 1 February and 1 August each year.”

Farm Angels (formerly Drought Angels) is calling on Australians to don their best flannelette (flanno) shirts this month to raise crucial funds for farming families in need.
The funds raised from ‘Flanno for a Farmer’ go towards providing essential emotional support, financial assistance, food hampers, care packs and personalised support to thousands of farming families across Australia.
“We need Australians to get their friends, family and workmates together, wear a flanno and raise money to help Farm Angels continue its great work,” founder Natasha Johnston said.
The official date for Flanno for a Farmer is Friday, August 23. But Farm Angels encourages people to rock a flanno any time throughout August.
