Consumers should not be concerned about eggs and poultry products from the supermarkets — they do not pose a risk and are safe to consume.
Agriculture Victoria says it’s a timely reminder that every producer should have an on-farm biosecurity plan and know the signs of diseases that could affect their animals.
Any suspicion of an emergency animal disease should be immediately reported to the 24-hour hotline on 1800 675 888 or to your local vet.
Blue-green algae alert dropped
Goulburn-Murray Water has removed the blue-green algae warning for Lake Nillahcootie following a significant decline in algae levels.
The warning was issued in January, and it was in place for 135 days.
G-MW water quality coordinator Bianca Atley said blue-green algae levels were regularly tested.
“If blue-green algae reach levels deemed unsafe by national health guidelines, a warning will be issued,” she said.

Major culvert works at Dookie
As part of Greater Shepparton City Council’s Major Culvert Renewal Program, construction works on Stewarton Rd in Dookie are under way.
The crossing of the road and a natural watercourse will be worked on to replace the culvert structure and install new guard railing.
Construction started on May 13 is expected to take 10 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Stewarton Rd will be closed to traffic at the immediate site, between Nalinga North Rd and Dookie-Nalinga Rd, where a detour route will be in place.
The signed detour route will be via Thomas Rd, Duggans Rd, Stewarton Rd, Nalinga North Rd, Midland Hwy and Dookie-Nalinga Rd.
Residents’ access will remain throughout the construction period.
For further information, contact council’s project team on projects@shepparton.vic.gov.au or phone 5832 9700.
Campaspe Shire road funding
Campaspe Shire Council has received funding under the Roads to Recovery Program, scoring $23 million over a five-year period from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029.
The program supports the construction and maintenance of local roads.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Rob Amos said the funding would help council progress important roadworks throughout the shire.
“This will be huge help as we continue to maintain more than 4000 kilometres of road within the shire,” he said.
“At this stage, we’re waiting for confirmation of how the funding will be divided over the five-year period to help plan upgrades and repairs.”
MP praises environmental flush
NSW State Member for Murray Helen Dalton says the NSW Government’s planned 50-gigalitre environmental flush in the Darling-Baaka River is belated but necessary.
“Blue-green algae has taken over huge parts of the river and this environment flush is desperately needed,” Ms Dalton said.
She said this was more proof that the Murray-Darling Basin Authority was running the rivers badly.
“These sorts of emergency measures are proof that the MDBA has lost control of our rivers and we are all paying the price.”
Ms Dalton has called on the NSW Government to take back control of the sections of the Murray-Darling Basin that are in NSW.
“We can’t trust the Federal Government or the MDBA to get things right.”
