The barbecue will be held on Saturday, October 7, from 10am to 1pm.
The new store is co-located with the Salvation Army Church at 25-27 Powlett St, Broadford, on the corner of Powlett and Gavan streets.
All funds raised from the new store will stay in the Mitchell Shire.
Mitchell Shire’s Salvation Army corps officer Lauren Kirkham said thrift shops provided social connection, recycling and vital fundraising.
“We’re so grateful to the local community who have always rallied together and supported the Salvos year after year,” she said.
“We continue to engage with community members needing support due to dire circumstances, including family violence and the rising cost of living.
“We cannot do what we do without you. If you have the means, please consider becoming a volunteer or supporting our work by shopping at our thrift shop.”
Over the past 12 months, the Salvos have supported hundreds of families and individuals.
The Salvos need volunteers across the shire to help meet the community’s ongoing needs and provide the caring support they are known for.
