The muster is held at Magorra Park and draws locals and tourists alike for some rural shenanigans.
“It’s a very country event,” organising committee treasurer Lorrae Smyth said.
“It’s friendly, people are happy — you really can’t go wrong because everything happens in one family-friendly place.”
With a dozen committee members and upwards of 50 event volunteers, the muster is an event served up by the community with all proceeds going back into the Mitta Valley community.
“The event couldn’t happen without the groups that help out, whether they’re manning gates, cooking barbecues or offering first aid,” Ms Smyth said.
Last year, for the 50th anniversary, the committee held a special Saturday evening prelude show, which they plan on repeating this year.
“The main attraction on Saturday evening is the El Jay freestyle motorbike show and a live band,” Ms Smyth said.
“Sunday is an action-packed day with the stockman’s challenge, woodchopping, novelty horse event and whip-cracking, to name a few.”
With 20 years of Mighty Mitta Muster volunteering under her belt, Ms Smyth is well aware of what keeps bringing people back to this little town nestled on the Mitta Mitta and Snowy rivers.
“It’s relaxing, it’s not expensive to attend and there’s always something happening.
“The muster has got bigger and bigger every year.”
