The heritage-protected weatherboard home at 80 River Rd was built in 1859 and is one of the town's oldest residences.
The 6080 sq m block on which the home sits was first sold to a butcher, Charles Wemyss, in December 1854.
A City of Greater Shepparton Heritage Study describes the building as a single-storey homestead with "walls clad in rough-sawn ironbark boards laid horizontally".
The report states that in 1901, Amy and Albert Gill purchased the property and subdivided the eastern side into a series of smaller residential allotments between the 1920s and 1940s.
The five-bedroom home at 80 River Rd still has wrap-around verandahs and plenty of original interior features including original flooring, Georgian timber windows, pressed metal ceilings, open fireplaces, high ceilings and a shingled verandah roof.
The heritage study describes the building as "of local historic and aesthetic significance".
Current owners Ross Downie and Danielle Sampson have lived in the house with their six children since 2017.
Melbourne-born Ms Sampson said the house had been perfect for raising a young, growing family.
“We wanted a country house to raise children — away from the hustle and bustle of city life,” Ms Sampson said.
“I often say to people that I didn't choose Murchison — 80 River Rd chose us.”
The house is listed for sale with Puppa and Gaehl Real Estate, Nagambie.
