Construction of the stadium came to a halt in late July due to financial pressures, rising costs and funding uncertainty with a change in federal governments meaning earlier funding promises came under review by the new government.
In October, it was announced that the project would recommence after the new Federal Government confirmed their earlier $3.3 million commitment to the stadium however no further works have commenced.
Moira Shire Director of Infrastructure Services Josh Lewis said council is in talks with the federal government surrounding the terms of the funding with the project to hopefully get underway early next year.
“Although the Multi Sports Stadium has not begun construction there is a lot happening in the background,” Mr Lewis said.
“Council is currently finalising the funding agreement with the Federal Government. Since the funding was confirmed as being available, council have been working on the terms and conditions of the agreement.
“Due to the time that has passed since the original tender, council is also obligated to assess the fairest and most equitable tendering options that maximises the value for money for ratepayers.
“Finalising the funding agreement and confirming the best available tendering option will provide confirmation on how the project can progress.”
Once construction begins the stadium will be built in three stages with stage one to include the entrance foyer, cafe, kitchen, tournament office, meeting room, toilets and showers, multipurpose room, umpire rooms, first aid room, changing place and four changerooms, each include a fully accessible toilet and shower and of course two multipurpose courts with seating.
The changerooms are designed so that two are accessible from the outside so that netball and other sports are able to utilise these. For large tournaments in the stadium, all four changerooms will be accessible.
Stage two will include two additional multisport courts - concept only shown on floor plan while stage three will include an indoor pool facility including changerooms, toilets and showers - concept only shown on floor plan.
