A multi vehicle collision occurred in Melbourne Street Mulwala at about 4.40pm on Monday involving a white Ford Falcon driven by a 72-year-old Yarrawonga woman.
The vehicle was travelling north in Melbourne Street towards Mulwala Water Ski Club, colliding with a car about to turn into the ski club before continuing on through the Bayly Street roundabout, where it collided with chairs on the terrace, advertising barriers/signs for the Royal Mail Hotel and then colliding with another vehicle before coming to a halt.
Bystanders who witnessed the action assisted the woman driver from her vehicle before emergency services personnel and police arrived at the scene.
“NSW Fire + Rescue cleared vehicle fluids from the roadway. The female driver was conveyed to Wangaratta Hospital. Police investigations are continuing,” Sergeant Stephen Marshall from Corowa Police Station, who attended the scene, said.
The Royal Mail Hotel stated on its Facebook page that they had been asking Federation Council to install safety barriers such as bollards on the corner of the roundabout adjacent to the hotel to protect patrons sitting on the grassed area outside of the pub but have now decided to not utilise the area.
“We at the Royal Mail will go above and beyond to protect the safety of our customers and staff so unfortunately, we have decided that sitting out the front of the pub is no longer available until Federation Council can do something about this dangerous corner, we do apologies for this, but safety is our number one priority,” the hotel’s Facebook post stated.
