This time, organisers are announcing a renewed commitment to funding research to reduce deaths and improve survival for breast and ovarian cancer.
Mother’s Day Classic Foundation chief executive Zara Lawless said the 28th Mother’s Day Classic, founded by Women in Super, would build on the relationship with the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, which joined long-standing beneficiary National Breast Cancer Foundation as part of an extended MDC family in 2024.
“The strength of togetherness was on full display last year, as the Mother’s Day Classic celebrated the addition of the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation while retaining our commitment to the National Breast Cancer Foundation — with incredible lifesaving results,” Ms Lawless said.
There has been an upswing in early event registrations, particularly in regional areas, which points to more than 90 locations hosting runs and walks nationally on Sunday, May 11.
“The Mother’s Day Classic is a testament to the power of community to make a huge difference in the lives of everyone affected by ovarian or breast cancer,” Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation chief executive Robin Penty said.
“Because of this generous 2024 donation, the OCRF will be announcing grants for more research projects than ever before in 2025.
“And we’re going even bigger this year, as we strive to grow the number of local events, participation and funds raised for women’s health and futures. Bring it on!”
And Shepparton is more than ready to contribute.
Shepparton Mother’s Day Classic Run for 2025 is expecting a crowd just as big as last year’s.
Shepparton’s Mother Day Classic organisers are more than eager to host the 13th run on Sunday, May 11.
“We had a huge response last year,” organiser Kathy Fuller said.
“Pretty well received for those that are bearing cancer or families connected.”
Shepparton Mother’s Day Classic not only invites participants to look pretty in pink, but also trendy in teal to support both ovarian and breast cancer research.
“Pink and teal ... we want to see it, we like to see the sea,” Ms Fuller said.
Runs and walks will begin on the Victoria Park Lake and Yanha Gurtji river paths, promising scenic views and enjoyable company.
The 8km run will begin at 9.30am, while the 2km and 4km walks will start alongside each other at 9.40am.
Representatives from the Shepparton Running Club and ‘paddle walkers’ from the Canoe Club will be travelling alongside runners and walkers, joining in on the fun and providing support wherever they can.
“If someone wants to pace with them, they’ll go as pacers and if someone wants to drop back they’ll walk with them,” Ms Fuller said.
“It’s about adding that little connection there.”
While runners and walkers who cross the finish line are recognised, there is no pressure to complete a track.
“Although we take note of who might come over the line, it’s not a timed event,” Ms Fuller said.
“So that means whether someone wants to do one lap, two laps, whatever — it’s not a timed event because the focus is on fun.”
The event will conclude at 11.30am after a fulfilling morning of bustling activity and support.
Grab a pre-run energy boost or post-event refreshments from the on-site coffee van, perfect for catching up with friends and family.
Ample parking will be available around the lake at SAM, Aquamoves and near Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club.
Leashed dogs are welcome, allowing you to enjoy a stroll with your furry companion while supporting a great cause.
And before starting the day, don’t forget to check in at the Mother’s Day Classic Village for registrations.
“The Shepparton event, although it’s a run and walk with the 2km, 4km and 8km, the focus is on fun and a little bit of joy for a beautiful way to start Mother’s Day,” Ms Fuller said.
“Jump online, sign up and come along. It’s an easy event to get to, you’ll have a lot of fun.”
