In our region, prostate cancer rates are alarmingly high, yet too many men still avoid the one simple test that could save their lives—the PSA test.
“That’s why we’re bringing one of Australia’s leading chemical pathologists, Associate Professor Ken Sikaris, to Corowa for an urgent and eye-opening conversation about prostate cancer, PSA testing, and what men—and their families—need to know,” Corowa’s Regional Business Chamber Executive John Crothers said, continuing his emphasis on certain words in his plea to men.
“Associate Professor Sikaris will be joined by a panel of local men who have faced prostate cancer firsthand. They’ll share their stories—the fear, the impact on their families, and why early detection made all the difference.
“There will also be a female perspective, because this disease doesn’t just affect men - it affects wives, partners, daughters and families who are left picking up the pieces when men don’t take action in time.”
The Hard Truth about Prostate Cancer
•1 in 6 Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
•Many won’t have symptoms until it’s too late.
•A simple PSA blood test can detect it early—when it’s easiest to treat.
•Early detection means survival rates over 95%—late detection is a much harder battle.
Why this matters to YOU
If you’re over 50 (or 40 with a family history), you should be getting a PSA test. But let’s be honest—most men don’t, and that’s why we’re losing too many fathers, husbands, brothers, and mates.
This event isn’t about scaring you—it’s about empowering you. It’s about helping men understand their risk, take control of their health, and make decisions that could save their lives.
So, bring a mate, bring your dad, bring your partner—and show up. Because not knowing won’t protect you. But taking action just might.
Councillor David Harrison of Federation Council is a strong advocate on the subject of health.
"If I hadn’t got tested, I wouldn’t be here today," Cr David Harrison said.
Don’t leave it too late.
Mark your calendar, spread the word, and join the conversation at Club Corowa on February 11th from 6.00pm to 7.00pm.
