Grown in Merrigum, Zeerust and Toolamba, the apples are described as the Gala’s new rival, set to topple the popular variety.
Redland general orchard manager Brent Reeve said Sassy apples are known for their iconic bright red colour.
“They’re a firm, crisp and crunchy apple,” he said.
“They grow exceptionally well in the Goulburn Valley.”
Sassy apples are set to take over the apple market.

The apple variety is originally from New Zealand, but Redland has brought it to Australia and it has been thriving in the Goulburn Valley.
“We’ve had them in the ground for the past five years, just with a few trees at the start,” Mr Reeve said.
“(We were able to) harvest our first commercial crop this year which is 1000 bins.”

So far, Mr Reeve said they had planted 80 hectares of Sassy, with another 100 hectares planned over the next two seasons.
“Our farming team are passionate about producing the best fruit possible, and Sassy Apples are a testament to their dedication,” he said.
“Sassy presents growers in the GV a real opportunity to take advantage of its natural heat-tolerant characteristics.
“Traditionally, Gala varietals have presented challenges — particularly with achieving high colour, but Sassy presents no such issue, it loves the heat.
“We’re confident Australians will love this new addition to their fruit bowls.”
Sassy apples will soon be available in supermarkets and fruit grocers Australia-wide.
