Now, a lifetime Cobramite has received the same treatment.
On Tuesday, February 18, family, friends, and fellow Freemasons of Trevor Hocking gathered at the Cobram Cinema for the official naming ceremony of the Trevor Hocking Room.
The room, shared between Cobram Freemasons and Cobram Youth Group, has for many years provided a space for community groups, businesses and the council to hold events.
In a testament to Mr Hocking’s life-long devotion to his community, it will continue to be a place dedicated to Cobram.
Mr Hocking, alongside the late James Wilson, played a pivotal role on behalf of the Cobram Freemasons to negotiate a 45-year lease of the building and land with the Cobram Youth Group in 2015.
Since the project commenced in 2017, Mr Hocking has been chairman of the Cobram Community Cinema Committee.
Mr Hocking, who is currently in hospital, has been filled in on the development, said Cinema Committee Secretary Rob Morey.
“I couldn’t think of a better person to have the room named after,” Mr Morey said.

“He deserves this recognition not only for his service to Freemasonry, but also to the Cobram community.
“I think people will see that name for a long time and be aware of the contribution he’s made to the community.
Mr Morey spoke highly of Mr Hocking’s personal qualities.
“He has a unique sense of humour, his anecdotes are often very refreshing, and he can come up with very sensible decision-making,” he said.
“He’s got a real ability to keep things calm.”
Mr Hocking’s family was pleased with how the ceremony went, Mr Morey added.
“It’s going to be a well-used room,” he said.
“Everyone will be able to acknowledge the things that Trevor has done for Cobram.”
